From St. Louis to Kansas City, and Branson to Jefferson City, Missouri is home to a large variety of animal and plant life.

Take, for instance, the Prarie Flax. Otherwise known as Wild Blue Flax, this flower species is one of over 220 varieties of Flax worldwide. This flower is visually appealing, and is often consumed by birds, deer, and other wildlife. Prarie Flax blooms for weeks throughout the late spring to the middle of summer, with its flowers opening in the morning and lasting for about a day. Their stems are wiry and leafy, and gradually lose most of their leaves as the flowers mature.

The state bird of Missouri is the Eastern Bluebird. This bird is easily identifiable thanks to its brightly-hued exterior feathers contrasted with its white belly and lower section. The Eastern Bluebird can reach up to seven inches in length, and are generally plump in stature with a straight, short beak. Although many Eastern Bluebirds call Missouri home, they can also be found all over the Western Hemisphere, from the East Coast to as far south as Nicaragua.

There are 83 state parks and historic sites located around Missouri where the animal and plant life can be enjoyed. Consider putting up new playgrounds in “The Show Me State” so that children can have fun outside. Simply contact your Missouri playground equipment representative to begin the process.
